Today, Leo threw an all-out temper tantrum. Complete with throwing things, throwing himself on the floor, and a spanking...first he gave one to me, which quickly followed with one of his own. Boy that kid has a temper. He even threw my brand new bike down to the floor! Sheesh...
He's not even hit 2 years old yet. While he has thrown fits before, none quite were up to today's standard of excellence. It just gave me a glimpse of what lies before me in the next 18 months. Any suggestions on how to properly deal with tantrums? Most of you who read my blog are familiar with Badal tempers...and my boy has a Badal temper in the worst possible way.

He gave you a spanking? Now that's funny! I wish I could have been there to see that one.
I'll be the first to NOT give you advice since I'm not qualified in that area. I know my son David got so mad at my mom that he told her he hated her & threw a Tonka truck at her. Me & Gerardo just looked at each other and none of us did anything. Hind sight looking back, I should have made him apologize to my mom, blah, blah, blah. It will be interesting to see what kind of "advice" you get! Just remember this: The way you react to things is an example for your kid.
All I know is what I've learned from Nanny 911! LOL! But seriously, I think if I were in your situation, I would ignore his cries as I calmly hold his hand and walk him over to a quiet place, like a corner in a part of your house *not his room. His room is not for punishment*. Sit him down, look into his eyes and calmly say, "No hit mommy."
I know most kids by now would start kicking, screaming, crying or whatever. Wait for him to calm down and then when he is calm, you let him get up and you go play with him.
Of course, this is coming from a non-toddler experienced mommy.
^___^
No advice here--I'm just a newbie--but I will tell you that my siblings and I had the "terrible twos" at 1 and a half. SO, hopefully this is a stage.
Pray! Seriously, when things like that happened to me when the boys were little, I say a quick prayer, and an idea would enter my mind that I would of never thought of, and it worked! Give it a try! :)
