Our neighbors, they're odd, with the exception of two, sometimes three. Why do I say this? First, let's discuss the neighbors.
We have "NWC" (Neighborhood Watch Committee) - that's what we call her - she's this Chinese snoop across the street. She thinks we're renters because we are too young to be in this neighborhood, according to her anyway. So for that reason, we are beneath her and she is always watching what we are doing. She thinks my father in law is the landlord and every time he comes over she runs out to check with him.
While we were fixing up the house before moving in, she walked straight into our house while we were painting to see what was going on. When we fixed up the BBQ in the back yard, she went into the vacant house next door's backyard and peered over the fence. Whenever we have people over, she stands in her backyard in a spot she thinks that she is invisible to us and just watches.
Then, we have our next door neighbors. We hardly ever see them and when our paths do happen to cross, they just pretend that we're not there. They will respond to my husband when he says hello, but if I wave it's a rare day that I get a return glance or wave. When we were moving in, they questioned my father in law about us, asking questions like, 'Are we Mexicans?' and do we have loud parties because the last owners were Mexicans who had loud parties. Then they asked what we did for a living, so my FIL told her that I stayed at home with the kids but my husband was a construction worker who carpooled and drank frequently in the front yard with his buddies. Sarcasm at its best.
They have an 11-yr old daughter that up until a week or two ago, we didn't even know she existed. Recently, however, she has taken to playing with LL. I don't think they like that. Once while she was playing with LL, her dad came out and started saying something in Chinese and she responded in English saying, 'but we're playing'. He said something and she began speaking back in Chinese and then quickly had to go. Today, the girl came out while we were playing in the front yard, and shortly thereafter was told to go pull weeds in the back yard, while her mother worked in the front yard and chatted up her neighbor opposite us.
So who do we get on well with? All the neighbors that aren't Chinese. I have nothing against Chinese people, I love their food. I just think that for whatever reason they don't like us.

Well, I can tell you the Japanese people I know have a problem with Chinese people & people who live in Rowland Heights really can't stand the Chinese because they have been known to be pushy & rude. The unfortunate thing is, they look like all the other asians! LOL While we all look alike, we are certainly not alike in mannerisms.
The scripture that says something to the effect of, "Bless them that curse you, Do good to them that hate you & pray for them that despitefully use you & persecute you" may offer some inspiration.
How weird to be around such weirdos. I LOVE your FIL. He cracks me up!
Man, what nut jobs! Don't they know that they have the most awesome neighbors EVER??? Next time I visit, we should have a dance party right in the front yard. Get all hopped up on Dr. Pepper. It would be epic.
Just think, that's who's taking over the world.
Your last paragraph had me laughing out loud. On the bright side, at least you rarely see the neighbors next door.
One of our neighbors is like Ms. NWC--only she does all of her snooping from a bedroom window that faces the street. It's very disconcerting to hear a disembodied voice call out to you while you're packing the car and ask whether you're going on a trip.
Ok. SO I must comment, because I have been privy to her snooping. It's hysterical. I can't call it anything other than that. However, it's not because she's Chinese. It's because she's a nutball. A complete, and utter wack job. I hope she stays around, because the next time I'm there, I'm gonna hug her. lol
I don't want to make any comments against Chinese people or your Asian neighbor, because I know some Chinese who are awesome to work with! The situation seems to be about who that particular person has been through and what their background is. They could have been any race and acted that way toward you, yes even Latino! (As you know, some Latinos hate against other Latino's from different regions or Latin America etc...)
Unfortunately, the only thing that is going to improve things is time, patience, respect, and a bit of that verse from the first comment on this blog.
Sorry you are going through this. It's very common in communities where people care about each other's safety and home value. I personally think it's great because it means you all watch out for each other.
My neighborhood is starting to be inhabited by people who don't care. People are starting to put things on their lawns that shouldn't be there. The value of the neighborhood drops every month and it's starting to look run down.
As a matter of fact, it's starting to get so run down that our house has been nearly broken into about 3-4times! The last time, someone was trying to break through our wall! YUP! They made a hole in our wall!
I wish I had an Asian lady to walk around and straighten out some of my neighbors. Or even have her to call the police when she heard someone banging on our wall. No one noticed when this happened, because everyone minds their own business here. (BTW I don't want to talk about this incident publicly on Facebook)
Anyway, I am just trying to get you to see, it's not as bad as you feel :) I hope it helped a bit to see things that way <3
Big hugs.
